Solstice ® N40 (R448A) – The alternative to R-404A/R-507 with lower GWP and better energy efficiency

Solstice ® N40 is a hydrofluoro-olefin (HFO) based refrigerant, characterized by a particularly low GWP – Global Warming Potential – value (reduction > 65% compared to R-404A).

The product is the ideal candidate to replace R-404A and R-507 in commercial and industrial direct expansion refrigeration systems, operating at medium and low temperatures.

Solstice ® N40 guarantees a significant improvement in energy efficiency in both medium and low temperatures; it can be used in new plants, and also allows a quick, simple and economic retrofit of systems already operating with R-404A and R-507.

Solstice ® N40 is a non-flammable blend and has been approved and adopted by major plant and component manufacturers; it is miscible with traditional POE lubricants.

Applications:

Solstice ® N40 is used in direct expansion refrigeration systems, operating at low and medium temperatures: centralized refrigeration systems and cold rooms in supermarkets, refrigerated warehouses, refrigerated counters and refrigerated display cases (plug-ins).

It is suitable for new plants and retrofits of existing R-404A/R507 plants.

Performance:

• Solstice ® N40 guarantees higher performance and energy efficiency than those of R-404A and R-507; tests carried out by compressor manufacturers and independent laboratories have found a reduction in energy consumption of up to 8% at medium temperature and around 3% at low temperature.
• GWP (Global Warming Potential) significantly lower than that of R-404A and R-507 (less than 65%).
• It does not require the replacement of components, lubricants and seals.
• Solstice ® N40 is non-flammable (ASHRAE Class – A1)
